Out Professionals Present: Learn How to Change the World, June 10th

June 9, 2009

If you’ve always wanted to make real change in the world — but weren’t sure where to start — take the first step with this special Out Professionals seminar.

We’re gathering five of America’s most prominent social-change leaders to find out how they create change, and what opportunities they see for getting involved in causes from gay/lesbian civil rights to HIV issues to racism and wealth inequity.

Since so many of us are facing professional transitions and exploring social-change enterprises for career or volunteer possibilities, this summit could not be more timely.

You’ll interact with these leaders:

Rise Wilson (far left), founder of The Laundromat Project, a non-profit arts organization committed to the well being of communities of color living on low incomes.

Miquela Craytor (second from left), executive director of Sustainable South Bronx, an organization dedicated to creating environmental justice solutions through innovative, economically sustainable projects that are informed by community need.

Mark Reed (middle), founder and principal of the Contact Fund LLC, a New York City-based community development investment which makes fixed-income investments in New York City community development entities engaged in micro-lending, business development, and real estate development.

Scott Clarke (second from right), founder of Amandla Development in response to the need in South Africa for local capacity development ensuring that populations previously oppressed by apartheid have the opportunity to participate in the growing economy on equal footing.

Charles King (far right), a founder and the president of Housing Works, Inc., the largest community-based AIDS services organization in the United States, which currently services over 5,000 people every year.

Location: Support Center for Nonprofit Management, 305 Seventh Avenue @ 27th Street, 11th Floor.

Admission: Free for students. Nonmembers, $10. OP Members, just $5. RSVP thoughtful but not required; you’re always welcome to just show up!
