Join a Committee

Bridge Members can sign up for an existing committees, propose a committee to the board, or apply to be a Committee Chairperson.  Committees can have up to two chairs, a first year student and a second year student.

There are no limits to the number of people who can join a committee.  Everyone on a committee must be a Bridge member.  Join here.

If you are already a member, then please email us at Bridge.wagner@gmail.com with the name of the committee you would like to join from the list at the bottom of the Committee page.

Become the First Year Representative of a Committee

Becoming the First Year Representative of a committee is a great way to get involved with Bridge.  Being a first year rep is both a doing and a learning position, with real responsibility and leadership involved as well.  First Year Reps can attend board and committee meetings, plan their own events, and learn about the way student groups work at Wagner. They also have access to second year students, who can act as their de facto mentors.  Finally, First Year Reps show initiative and prove they can handle responsibility, which is great practice if they eventually want to head a committee or become a board member.

Before you can become the first year representative of a committee, you must join Bridge by filling out our  membership form. If you are already a member, please email us at bridge.wagner@gmail.com with the following information:

  • Name of committee you are interested in becoming the First Year Representative of.
  • Your vision for this committee and detail at least two specific committee goals for the year.(100-400 words)
  • An explanation of the contribution you will make as a Bridge leader, including relevant experience and skills.(100-400 words)

Become a Committee Chairperson

Why chair a committee?  Chairs have the unique opportunity to implement a project from start to finish, using Bridge as a platform to achieve their own professional goals.  You could organize a skills workshop for something you’ve been wanting to learn, or arrange a guest for an UpClose event that you’d particularly like to speak with.   You will also have access to all Bridge’s Board members, as well as insight into the larger Wagner community, and connections with other professionals in the social innovation space at NYU.

As a Committee Chairperson, you will:

  • Establish committee goals
  • Organize and manage the committee and its projects
  • Recruit and engage committee members
  • Represent Bridge to the wider social innovation community at events and conferences
  • Maintain open communication with the Bridge Board
  • Record and archive your committee’s materials using Bridge’s online information management system
  • Create and maintain up-to-date the content of your committee’s page on Bridge’s website
  • Attend board meetings monthly to report on your committee’s activities

Before you can chair a committee, you must join Bridge by filling out our  membership form. If you are already a member, please email us at bridge.wagner@gmail.com with the following information:
